VIP tours

For VIPs who prefer a higher-comfort Yamal Peninsula adventure, this is the place for you. We offer highly catered but extreme tours using the most luxurious transport and accommodation in the region.

Do not think that adding comfort means less adventure. The opposite is true. Hiring private helicopters and well-appointed all-terrain vehicles will open up spectacular places that are inaccessible to most travellers.

There are several levels of increased comfort that we can provide for any of our set itineraries and for tailored tours:

  1. Instead of hiring a Trekol all-terrain vehicle only to get you out to the nomad camp, you can hire it for the whole duration of your trip. This means you will not have to travel on freezing bumpy sledges attached to the back of snowmobiles when accompanying the Nenets on their daily herding work or migrations. You will also always have a living space where you can warm up or work. We can easily set up the back of the Trekol to provide basic sleeping spaces if you prefer this to sleeping in the chum with the family.
  2. Instead of hiring a Trekol, you can use a Burlak all-terrain vehicle. This has six beds, a table and a kitchenette inside. We can even provide a cook for your tour / expedition. However, as he will not have access to a full-size kitchen or the full range of cooking equipment meals will be limited to fairly simple stuff.
  3. Instead of using all-terrain vehicles, you can rent a private helicopter. However, please be aware that blizzards on the Yamal Peninsula occur almost every day in winter, equipment at airports is not up to European

standards and air traffic controllers are very strict. All this means that helicopters are very often delayed. Sometimes this is by hours, quite often by days and on rare occasions even by weeks. Unless you have a lot of spare time, you may want to reconsider using a helicopter to reach nomad camps in winter, particularly as most camps are located quite close to settlements at this time of year. However, in summer weather is better and most nomad camps are located hundreds of miles to the north of the nearest settlement. This is when it can really make sense to use a helicopter if you do not mind missing out on a rough but exciting overland adventure. Delays do still occur but they are less frequent and shorter than in winter.

As for accommodation options, once out in the tundra you have three options:

  1. The chum (reindeer-fur teepee) of your nomadic hosts. You will sleep on warm, soft reindeer furs with a sleeping bag which we will provide. You will share all meals with them.
  2. In your all-terrain vehicle, if you have hired a private one.
  3. In your own tent. If required, we can provide spacious, heated tents with folding beds. We can even provide a bath tent if required.

Salekhard town, where most trips begin, has a range of hotels. The best is the 4* Yuribey. It has a variety of rooms, the best of which are its 110m² suites.
